I know several successful women that are with a home party plan type business that create themes for their home parties.
These theme type parties can really enhance the experience for guests….and that could lead to bigger sales. Bigger sales is the goal!
Making guests “feel” like they are coming to something special makes the experience unique and fun, instead of the dreaded *blah* home party. Haven’t we all been to those? It’s almost like a baby shower…..you want to crawl out of the dorkiness that envelops the entire party and run once you’ve hit the exit.
So what theme is the RIGHT theme?
Getting to know your hostess is a good way to pick a theme that suits both she and her guests. And by suggesting a theme….let your hostess know it could benefit her greatly with more sales….and that always means more for the hostess in products!
Themes can make a home party more fun and less “same ole, same ole” – as I said – but they don’t have to be difficult or time consuming.
I recently received an invitation to a “Fiesta” home party. All the food was Mexican, non-alcoholic and alcoholic margaritas were served and Mexican/Latin music.
It was a lot of fun.
I actually do a lot of themes myself. The most popular right now is a wine and cheese party. Most party goers live in the neighborhood – so alcohol isn’t an issue. But if people are driving….that is an issue. So keep that in mind when planning your theme. That goes without saying I’m sure.
But beautiful wine glasses, assorted cheeses and fruit are a great way to treat guests at a home party. The food isn’t overly heavy and wine helps relax everyone.

It seems hardly anyone ever entertains anymore – so a great way to help folks find a reason to break out those dusty wine glasses (that your hostess JUST loves, but never gets to use), and pretty serving platters is by spreading the word about your home party business!
If you’re in a home party plan business that sells wine, wine glasses or serving platters or dishes….USE YOURS! Show them off by letting the hostess use them during the party.
For more home party plan themes – feel free to check out the list of themes on my site www.TheWAHMConnection.com.
I have a great list there. If you decide to use this list on your site….or promote it – please give credit where credit is due and let folks know where the list came from. A link back would be great! Thanks!
What home party plan ideas have you used recently that really worked?
Spring is a great time to book home parties. People are ready to mix and mingle after a long winter!
Maybe even a Spring themed home party? Pretty fresh flowers, packets of seeds as a little party favor and seasonal fruits and veggies with a lite dip.
Don’t get too stressed out about your theme, and remember – you don’t HAVE to have a theme at all. But sometimes having a theme can actually make it easier with planning. It takes a lot of guess work out of it and people enjoy coming to a little “event” that has a theme.

Hey Kelly!
Love your site and your sense of humor. It’s nice to hear what real women have to say about working at home and the companies they are with. I’ve often thought about joining a company, and coming here will certainly help me with my final decision.
But I wanted to make a comment about home party themes.
I feel like an expert. Our neighborhood is Dallas has them A LOT!!!!!
I recently attended a home party for jewelry that the theme was “Hollywood Oscars”. It was so much fun. Everyone got as dressed up as possible. Hair, nail polish, make-up and fancy dresses and shoes. (People in their 30s and 40s never get the opportunity to do this!!)
Most people got their dresses at Goodwill or a second hand store or they already had one, so it’s not like it was expensive.
There was champagne and little plastic Oscars. The hostess had a CD playing that was all movie theme songs and the games we played were quotes from movies.
She had full length mirrors (she said she got them cheap at walmart…), so we could try on jewelry and see ourselves.
I absolutely loved it. I ended up spending $202!! I think if it had been a non-themed party, I would have spent less than half that. Typically when I go to these kind of parties I buy ONE thing to be nice and that’s it! But this party was hysterical and fun.
The door prizes were a pedicure gift certificate and a spray on tan gift certificate!
My neighbor told me her party total was over $2000 and she got a lot of free and low priced jewelry because of it!
I LOVE the theme idea! I am a theme girl myself and use themes for my team meetings to get everyone excited to come to the meeting. I have used the theme idea for my parties, but I don’t think I have given it the attention it deserves!! Thanks for the great post and the list of ideas! I will definitely give it some more attention now that we are getting into spring and everyone is ready for some FUN!!
Kelly
Love this post and your list of themes. Since I have a children’s product I also do Teddy Bear Picnic parties, and Bedtime Story Pajama Parties. Tea Parties work well as do Fairy Tale Parties. Julie Weitz from outwardimage.com is who originally turned me on to themes and they work!! Especially in this day when the economy is rough, sending a “come have fun” tone vs. a “come spend money” tone works well!
