Planning a Summer Vacation with the Family

Mom Reviewed Beach VacationsMy husband and I are planning a summer getaway with our two kids this summer. Something simple…nothing extravagant – but preferably a beach vacation. My youngest is nine and only been to the beach once in her life….so we’d like to take her to the beach again….and quite frankly, I am ready for the beach as well….this has been one hell of a winter here in western NC!

We go to Gatlinburg every summer – and we love that. But we’d love to add a little beach romp this year. With moving over the winter – and trying to unpack over the holidays – nerves (mine!) are frayed and a good dose of vitamin D sounds like the perfect cure!

We’ve been to Myrtle Beach and love it there. We’ve stayed at SeaMist and the Kingston Plantation.

Though both were nice….we prefer to try another place or another beach. I don’t mind cooking most meals myself when on vacation ( I KNOW! I’m weird!) I like to know what my family is eating. Have you seen “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution”? Have you watched the movie “Food, INC”? Have you read the book, “Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual”?
OMG – no thanks….I’ll figure out what to feed my family myself….there is too much “so-called” food out there. It’s killing all of us in my opinion. So cheap food on vacation….”deals” on meals….gross – not even a perk.

Wireless internet is imperative too – that’s one thing I hate about the place we stay at in Gatlinburg! The price they charge for internet is STUPID! But I have to have it because I work online. So wireless internet that doesn’t mean selling a kidney is important too! LOL

So anyway….on to the beach.

I would love to hear anyone’s suggestions. Obviously it needs to be affordable, family oriented, clean and FUN!

I haven’t had a real vacation in…years. Since I started working at home, we either couldn’t afford it….or it’s not really a vacation because I have to bring my laptop and work! But I digress into the misnomers of “blissful” ‘work at home’.

Thanks!

Tomorrow I’ll be reviewing “More” magazine for women over 40! That would be ME!!! Stay tuned!
