Ouch!! Should have backed that up!

I wasn’t talking about THAT kind of backed up??
Geeesh!
Trust me…If we were gonna talk poop today – I would have made sure the title had the word poop in it!

I’m talking about backing up you precious computer files.

As someone that works solely on the internet…..my whole business is on my computer. And not just my business…all my pictures….and well….my World of Warcraft game (talk about important!! lol) – I’ve got my bookkeeping and my book that I’m writing and so much stuff – the thought of losing it all….YIKES. It would be….devastating. DEVASTATING.

Now – being as I have an internet based business…..and I’m a smart WAHM…I DO have an external hard drive that I back up most of my stuff onto each day. I use an APS Back Ups RS 1200. I use Super Fleixible File Synchronizer to move the files. And I’d like to take credit for this set up – but alas, my IT guy-buddy did it for me years ago.

But is it enough? Nope.

None of us wants something to awful to happen. But fires, floods….power surges and more can destroy your computer. Hell…..your computer can just decide to die. And there is no amount of CPR that will bring it back. Been there with a BRAND NEW COMPUTER! You just never know.

So what else can we smart cookies do to protect are stuff?

A remote back up service. Yep. I highly recommend it. There are many out there – but if you want to know how I back up all 16 of my websites, my photos, my bookkeeping, my book I’m writing and everything else?? I use Mozy.

Why Mozy?

Well – first off -they use military grade encryption. If you’re as paranoid as me, this is important. Their data centers are state-of-the-art. Mozy is pretty much continuously working in the background to identify any files that have changed or been added….so it can do a back up. Of course – you can set it up to back up when you like…but I just have mine on automatic.

They also don’t LOOK at your files. So if you’re writing some steamy, sexy book (mine is not…lol), their won’t be a group of computer nerds sitting around at the data centers reading it  – they do look at folder names and file ext – but that’s necessary.

And of course…most important – tons of support. You’ll want that support if you ever have an issue. I promise. And they are there.

So is it a fortune? No. But it’s not free. They do have  a free version – but if you’re serious about having a piece of mind – I would not do the free version – besides….get all the support you need for only $5.99 a month. Yep….basically six bucks. Come on???

Set up is easy, the cost is minimal – and it’s been recommended by a WAHM that has her life, work….everything on her computer.

Research Mozy yourself. You’ll be glad you did!

Movies of our youth....

I’m 44.
A young 44 – I think. I hope.
I look in the mirror and I don’t see 22 anymore, granted. But I don’t see the Crypt Keeper either.

So….the 40′s – you’re still hanging on to the idea of looking like Demi Moore or Sandra Bullock – maybe
even Nicole Kidman – Hollywood’s 40-somethings. Your brain says…”Hey – they ARE in their 40′s – so it IS a possibility that I could look like they do….”

Probably not.

Not to be a big downer or anything….

So why this post?? Where am I going with this? LOL

Last night I was flipping around the channels on my TINY little office TV so I could have some “noise” on while I worked. And there I see….”When Harry Met Sally”. You say…..”I love that movie.” Hey….ME TOO! Watched the whole dang movie even though I’ve seen it 10 times. Meg Ryan looked so young….Billy Crystal looked young. I google the year it was made….1989. Really??
Twenty-two years ago?? NOOOO?? Not possible.

I remember my Mom talking about “old” movies when I was growing up. They were “old” to me….to her – they were the movies of her youth….they still held the spirit of being young. To me…..they were ancient. My Mom was in her 40′s at the time. Now….here I am… 40′s and I’m watching “When Harry Met Sally”. I was transported to a time before kids and worries…before cellulite and stretch marks….before wrinkles and reading glasses. Really – 1989?? Has it been that long?

Yep.

So where do we go in our 40′s? Hell…in our 50′s? Even our 60′s and beyond? Do we go through each day longing for youthful skin….wishing for a body like a fabulous celeb our age? Well….I’d be lying if I said I haven’t done that…or that I won’t ever do that again. Young is cool. But I “did” young already. It was fun. It was a blast. But without getting older – you don’t get the beautifully aged rewards and lessons.

At 22 – I couldn’t have been married to the same man for 20 years? A fabulous man. Sexy and smart and cares deeply for me. I couldn’t have a 16 year old son right now – who is adorable and funny and reminds me every day that having kids is SO worth it. I wouldn’t know that saving money IS really important. I wouldn’t know that sunscreen is a must. I wouldn’t know that the friendships I carelessly threw away in youth were actually very dear to me – so the friendships I have now – I treasure and respect.  I wouldn’t have the knowledge of building my own successful business for 11 years. I wouldn’t know that TIME….is bittersweet. That people you love pass away and it hurts more than you can imagine, pets you love are here for such a short time  – kids grow up really fast….

Yes….bittersweet.

BUT — to maximize the time you have…spend it like precious gems. Do things you love. Tell people you love, that you love them. Take care of yourself, your kids….your special someone. Give Fido a hug. Write that book you keep saying you’re going to write. Plant that flower bed you’ve been wanting to plant. Watch an “old” movie that brings back awesome memories.

Like Harry Burns says toward the end of “When Harry Met Sally”…….”I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”

The rest of our life starts right now. Your younger than you’ll ever be again….wrinkles, extra weight, cellulite, bills, dirty laundry…..so what? Squeeze the daylights out of today, because before you know it….you’re writing a blog post about how the last 22 years flew by.
